bigger club

By Mike O’Connell
we always search for
new ways to heal
outpaced by old ways of war
killing one another
justified with arguments
grand and foolish
territorial resources
always in play
where water evaporates
leaving no fuel for tears
where explosions mark
the passing of sanity
synchronized with wealth
and greed dealing death
as if it were a game
lamenting heros passing
into cul de sacs of history
alone at last praised in songs
exploits stretching facts
as far as we can take them
changing colors on a whim
riding nonsensical mythology
represented by machines
evolving quicker than their
makers after all
a nuclear weapon is
just a bigger club
